FAQ's
Why should
I be concerned about the products I use on my skin?
What we put on
our bodies is sometimes more important than what we put in
our bodies. Our skin is the largest organ on the body, a porous
surface capable of taking in and releasing nutrients, waste, and
chemicals. The topical agents used on the skin inevitably end up
inside the body and can build up, causing irreparable damage with
continued use. At times, this is much more harmful than what we
ingest, as the digestion process releases waste and unused nutrients
daily.
What makes
your products different?
Our products utilize
96% natural ingredients which have proven effectiveness. Unlike other
brands which use chemicals for softness and fragrance, our products
use natural oils, minerals, and vitamins in a Shea Butter base to
moisturize, condition, heal and hydrate. Combined with our unique
scents, we offer the best of both worlds- proven natural products at
competitive prices with luscious aromas. Lastly, our products are
mineral oil, petroleum, and paraben free.
Are
products from national brands bad for me?
No, products from
national brands are not bad for you in the same way that eating a
burger or your favorite dessert are not bad for you, however, the
cumulative effects from repetitive use may be bad for you. The
long term effects of the ingredients may be harmful and these
products should be used in moderation.
Why Shea
Butter?
Shea butter is a
natural fat made from the fruit kernel of the Karite nut tree,
located in West Africa. It is widely used in cosmetics, hair, and
personal care products due to its natural moisturizing, healing, and
protecting qualities. Shea is natural source of Vitamins A, E, and F
which serve many functions on the skin. Some of these include
treatments for skin disorders, promoting healthy skin through cell
regeneration and repair, and soothing and softening rough, dry spots.
What other
properties does Shea Butter have?
Besides the vitamin
power pack, shea butter is also known to have the following
properties:
Natural
restructuring effects which help improve dermatitis, eczema,
psoriasis, rheumatism, irritated and inflamed skin, as well as other
minor conditions.
Anti-elastase
characteristic which makes it a natural asset in the fight against
stretch marks, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.
Excellent
moisturizer for sensitive skin and does not trigger allergic
reactions.
Contains high
amounts of cinnamic acid which acts as a minor sunscreen
(approximately SPF 6).
What are
some of your major ingredients besides Shea Butter?
Some of our major
ingredients include Purified Water, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil,
Grapeseed Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Sweet Almond Oil, and Sunflower
Oil. All of these work in concert to promote soft, supple, and well
conditioned skin.
Why unrefined Shea Butter?
What's the difference between refined and unrefined Shea?
Unrefined Shea Butter has been manually
extracted using only water in the process. It retains all of the raw
materials and the natural healing and moisturizing properties,
however it is thicker and more cream colored than commercial Shea.
Refined Shea Butter indicates the removal process included either
mechanical or chemical extraction with solvents, with the butter
further treated to remove smell, colors, and impurities. While this
refined state is good, many of the original properties of the Shea
are diminished and/or lost altogether.
In order to give our customers the best
possible product with the most benefits available, our product line
uses raw, unrefined Shea Butter. The addition of essential oils and
vitamins mitigates many of the potentially unpleasant qualities of
the Shea.
Your products are mineral oil,
petroleum, and paraben free - what does this mean and why should I
be concerned?
As the largest organ of the body, what
we put on our skin can interfere with normal body functions. We must
be aware when selecting products that not all ingredients prove
beneficial. Anything chemical absorbed through the skin can be 10
times as strong as the same chemical ingested orally. Here are some
facts about these specific items:
Petroleum and its derivatives are
common ingredients found in many commercial products, such as
shampoos, lotions, body washes, and baby care products. It is
produced as a byproduct of the distillation of gasolene from crude
oil. Petroleum acts as a thin layer of oil on the skin and is known
to clog pores which slows the body's ability to release toxins and
other waste.
Mineral oil is a clear, liquid oil
that has no scent and does not spoil. It is also known as liquid
petroleum.
Parabens are chemical
preservatives found in many personal care products, from toothpaste
and shaving cream to shampoo and lotions. While research can not
absolutely confirm its danger, it is know that parabens mimic the
natural hormone estrogen, which is known to cause breast cancer and
can be detected in other human tissue.
